Johnny Depp’s court struggle with his ex-wife Amber Heard was the source of much controversy for a considerable amount of time.

Depp made his first public appearance at the event since his legal battle with Heard was resolved in 2022.

During a seven-minute standing ovation, Depp holds back his tears.

A standing ovation for seven minutes was given to Depp during the start of the 2023 Cannes Film Festival in Paris, France.

The actor portrayed King Louis XV in the biographical drama “Jeanne Du Bary.” Although he refrained from crying, Depp appeared taken aback by the standing ovation and waved to the balcony audience.

When the “Black Mass” actor arrived in Cannes, he was likewise greeted with warmth. Thousands of adoring admirers tried to touch their hero outside the Palais while holding signs.

Before he graced the red carpet, Depp spent five minutes outside, giving many fans the chance to touch him.

The movie “Jeanne Du Bary” handed Depp his first well-known acting role after he won the lawsuit against Heard.

Despite the fact that the jury found in Depp’s favor, the actor has stayed off the Hollywood scene ever since Heard accused him of abuse.

Maïwenn plays Jeanne Vaubernier in this most recent picture. In addition, Maïwenn serves as the movie’s producer and director. In the eighteenth century, Vaubernier was a working-class woman who ascended the social ladder to become the sweetheart of King Louis XV.

Despite being the king’s sweetheart, Vaubernier was a social outcast because of her working-class upbringing. In the king’s court, she was no longer welcome. Melvil Poupaud, Pierre Richard, Pascal Greggory, and Benjamin Lavernhe are among the other performers that appear in the movie.

Depp further stated in an interview at the Cannes Film Festival that he would not let the well-publicized legal dispute he had with Heard define who he was.

Even though Depp was well greeted at the festival, Heard’s pals criticized the organizers for allowing him to attend.

Journalist Eve Barlow, a friend of Heard’s, claimed the event organizers had a “history of supporting… and abusers.”

Thierry Fremaux, the festival director, asserted that he is unaware of Depp’s reputation in the United States. According to Fremaux, he was just abiding by the law:

It involves behaving within the bounds of the law, thinking freely, and speaking freely. We wouldn’t be here discussing it if Johnny Depp had been prohibited from appearing in movies or if the movies themselves had been outlawed.
