If you watch The X Factor UK, you may remember Anthony Russell from the 2017 season. This gifted singer advanced all the way to the Judges’ Houses before withdrawing from the competition to deal with personal issues. Anthony was doing well in the competition, but he realized he was on a shaky path and needed assistance.
Louis Tomlinson, who would go on to be a judge in 2018, had been watching Anthony on the show and decided to contact him. He offered to assist Anthony on his road to recovery, and now this talented young man is returning for a comeback audition, hoping to impress the judges once more. Anthony decided to perform an incredible rendition of Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” while clean and sober.
This young man clearly has an incredible voice, and he was born to perform on stage. This audition, however, was more than just a song for Judge Louis. He was moved to tears by Anthony’s performance and how far he has come in such a short period of time. Anthony received a standing ovation from all of the judges and the entire audience, and he will advance to the next round.
I’m glad he got a second chance to pursue his dream, and I hope to see more of Anthony throughout the competition. After such an emotional comeback audition, who else is rooting for this brave young man?
